Vimeo or YouTube for sharing my short film, I Will Never Run.

10 years ago - Nathan Hannawin

Hello,

I have just finished my short film I Will Never Run, (you can see it here https://shootingpeople.org/watch/131384/i-will-never-run)

I am very happy with the result but wondering what everyone else has experienced sharing work via Vimeo and YouTube.

I have chosen Vimeo to start sharing I Will Never Run as it feels a professional platform however I know I will not receive as much feedback as maybe YouTube, but as this is my first short everything is valuable to me. Personally, I use social media very little (something I know I need to change) so I will not have a big reach, however what is best for me is to gain feedback & comments, positive and negative so I can learn for the future.

So, does any have advice, experience or the pro's and cons of Vimeo and YouTube?

Cheers

Nathan

Personally, I don't see the harm in offering the viewer a choice - for instance:
HD Version: http://vimeo.com.mymovie
Other resolutions: http://youtube.com/mymovie

For instance if I'm viewing from a mobile, I find youtube much more reliable than vimeo, vimeo tends to buffer more for me. But if I've got broadband, I'll go for the quality version!

Why limit yourself to one or the other? Why not both!? :)

Hello Paddy Robinson-Griffin,

Thanks for the reply. I should have made myself a little clearer I think :) I have the film on both Vimeo and YouTube at the moment, but have decided to use Vimeo as the main platform to push it out. I feel trying to share on both equally at the same time could have a negative impact on its effect. Am I over thinking it a little?

Cheers

Hi Paddy,

That's a great idea...seems obvious now! Have a lot of problems with Vimeo on mobile myself. Thanks for the help,

Nathan
