INDEXVisual Effects question?

Hi People,
1) I need to have a stock ticker effect in a scene of my financial crime thriller. There is an example of this in the linked stock clip above.
2) I may also need to have translucent math equations over a scene. There was a scene in the DaVinci Code where Tom Hanks stands there and has translucent planets swirling around him, as if he were dreaming this. That would be an example of this.
I'm not certain what the trade parlance is for these kind of effects, which is why I'm not posting this on the get people board.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks,
George

1) this is just a projection, practical effect - get ticker footage and a projector (bright one so you can still see it after lighting the scene), job done
2) sounds like VFX compositing

Thanks for the response Paddy.
Ticker needed scene is already in the can, so will have to accomplish in post..
We didn't green screen the girl in the other scene (where I want to add translucent math equations floating around) it was shot in a a cathedral.
I'm talking to a few people as to what can be done or not be done, and checking in here as well.

Hi George, you are talking about projecting an effect onto a foreground object, even in VFX. You'll be looking for a compositor.
Someone will need to rotoscope out the foreground object to mask the ticker footage and warp the footage to make it seem like it's falling on a 3D object.
The difficulty depends on the specifics of the shot - how long it is, how much movement there is, how complicated the geometry is, how accurate you need it etc.
The shot you've linked to could probably be done in half a day - he's barely moving and the edges aren't that accurate.
You'll also need to think about whether you'll be providing the ticker/equation footage or if you'll want the VFX artist to generate it. Whilst you might find yourself a VFX generalist, generating the artwork and compositing are two different skill sets.
