INDEXWhat is the best way to go about casting babies for a short film?
11 years, 5 months ago - Hardy Saleh
Hello!
So I need a cast of babies for a 30 second short for the sofa.com competition, 1 minimum, 3 or 4 ideally...
Are there specific agencies or websites?
What are typical rates?
Is it possible to cast babies on a budget?
All help appreciated.
With thanks,
Hardy

Babies change fast. You def need to know how old a baby you need. If over 6 months, local nurseries might be worth a shout - they might be willing to put a note out to their "returned to work" mums.
Younger babies tend to be at home with their mums and hard to reach, so prob a specialist agency for that, (I've been told that many pregnant actresses / models keep their agents informed of due dates just in case this call comes in, but I don't see you getting many budget quotes - it's a huge palaver taking a little tiny one out of the house so for someone in the biz, the money would need to make sense).
But, and I speak as a father of two, have you any idea just how difficult this is going to be to shoot? Babies spend most of their time feeding, shitting, sleeping, grizzling and only a small part of it being gorgeously cute. With 4 babies on the plot there will always be something kicking off, and they will often set each other off, esp in strange surroudings/people. Mums who decide their little ones are unhappy will simply walk off.
Have fun :-)
