What is the best way to network with producers?

3 years, 6 months ago - Stephanie Ridge

I would really appreciate any Director's advice on how they went about successfully networking with Producers. Or advice from Producers as to what they look for, and were they go when they want to expand their network. I know film festivals can be a popular place to meet people. But is there anywhere else?
And also has Covid changed the way we network now, as so much has switched to being online.

Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated. Thanks

Producers don't typically "network" as any meaningful discussions are more 1-1 focussed, and during networking events, they can get cornered! Maybe be upfront about what it is you want from a producer - advice on how to approach your project vs expacting them to fund your dreams will help you find the people you actually want?

I recently went to an event where producers emphasised that being valued for their own creative voice, interests and work is important to them. So doing research and trying to build mutually beneficial relationships rather than specifically looking for someone to help make a project happen may create more results.
