INDEXWhat monitor size and make do other directors find useful and practical on set?

Its easy to not bother and use the monitor on the camera, but its not the best way to judge frame and composition on set. I wondered what worked for other directors?

It's not really that important as long as it's not got a domestic cutoff region. If it's just for framing you can go cheap, but beware if you haven't set it up/calibrated accurately with bars/etc. It's tempting to think what you see is what you get, but monitors have backlights, untrue colours, etc., and can lead to extra rework in post. Anyway, 14-22" seem pretty commonly used.

Look at the Oddysey7 (HD only) or Oddysey7Q+
Bit pricey, but with lovely 7.7" OLED screen, monitoring functions, and integral recording. The latter does 4k ProRes! This will last for a few yaers. Rec2020 is around the corner, but you won't see a monitor equivalent of that for a while. However I'm sure there will be a software update that allows usable monitoring when it arrives.
