What would be the going rate for a location scout in London for a self financed short? Thanks

I would like to set a fair rate of pay but it is a self-financed short. I live in Amsterdam, so am unsure of UK rates. Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks

Richard

You can get someone good for £200/day, but be aware some locations will take more than a day to find and set up the paperwork, etc.

You can try asking here if anyone has any suggestions for the types of location you want, may speed things up for free!

PS if you need the contract details of someone possibly slightly more expensive but very good, PM me.

Why London? It's expensive to shoot there. Gloucester and Cheltenham are often used as London, (Cheltenham for posh areas, Gloucester for more working class and/or historical). Major advantage is that the Councils are film friendly and the logistics are very simple, and you could shoot a Docks, cafe and plaza, shopping center, cathedral, church, ruins simply by walking between them. The local college also has a well respected Film making course focussed on the technical side AND they have a oodles of kit available at free/cheap rates for film makers who can offer their students meaningful experience. Plus great countryside starts a mile outside town.

Absolutely what Marlom says, by the way - London adds a lot of cost and hassle you may not need of you're not tied geographically! Maybe grab a quick GV establisher on your way through, or use a bit of stock footage of London buses and cabs crossing Tower Bridge, then head outside the M25 (orbital motorway around London)

It'll depend what you need, just be aware that there's pretty much nothing for free/cheap in London - filmmakers have come before you and used up most of the favours!

Dear Paddy and Marlom,
Great food for thought. It's an inner-city story that needs a bleak housing estate and a canal. I simply thought it would be easier to find in London, or at least the outskirts of a major city. I'll have a look at Cheltenham and Gloucester for sure, And perhaps generally widen my search.
I suppose for me it was simply that I am a Londoner (though moved to Amsterdam 15 years ago) and when the film plays in my head, I can see London.
But perhaps this would also be the advice of a good location scout. Look outside of London.
Marlon, when you say the local college, does that refer to Gloucester or Cheltenham?

Local College - Gloucester http://www.gloscol.ac.uk/courses-and-departments/course-details/AM122465

Bleak housing - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=muirhouse&client=ubuntu&hs=s2W&channel=fs&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi39deX3avLAhULmBoKHadkD_4Q_AUICCgC&biw=1535&bih=805 ? Muirhouse in Edinburgh. In the early 90's I had a girlfriend who lived there and every time I left the car parked was an adventure. Even though I'd been told no one would touch it because everyone knew that anyone who dared park a nice car there was someone whose car you didn't mess with....

While there are still many low rise scrufty estates around, I think most of the bleakest tower ones have been tarted up or redeveloped over the past 20 years and according to Google even a lot of Muirhouse looks nice now.

If scrufty works, Gloucester has it, esp at single street level (every town does), but if you want deprived vista with high rise, you probably need a large Midlands / North town/city.

For canals, canalside is now des res. Gloucester has some derelict canalside (being redev) and quite a lot of light industrial.

If you send me some google images of the type of location you want I'll let you know if Glos/Chelt would work.

Wow, Muirhouse is brutal. I grew up new Chalk Hill Estate in London. At one pointed was deemed the worst estate in the UK. But compared to Muirhouse, it was Butlins. Gloucester sounds very interesting. I'll send you my mood board. Thanks very much.

I'm looking for locations for www.MargeryBooth.com and I'm gutted to discover Sarah Eastel had died. I met her a few years back and she was the best! I need war damaged streets and have been told there are still a few around in Eastern Europe à la The Pianist.
