I'm guessing your friend is the writer. If they're the producer or even the director I already think they lack the hustle, (They should be here themselves).

Pitching an IDEA?

Think about it - do you have the kind of track record that suggests your ideas are worth even talking about, let alone funding?

Have at least one script, even if it's for a different idea. Anyone who can actually help you needs to know that AT BARE MINIMUM, you can deliver a bloody good script. Because if you can't, they want to be talking to people who can.

One trick (if you don't have a script for your idea) is to have a great but too expensive script. "I have this great script for 1066, but it needs the full Hollywood. My affordable ideas are....".

And finally - do your research. When you sit in front of Joe Smith who funds zombie movies, know that he funds zombie movies, know what their budgets probably are (watch them, make a guess) and it you are NOT pitching a zombie movie at least be pitching something at that budget and where the sales model would be similar / audience transferable. (It IS fine to not pitch a zombie movie because he might well be looking for something new, but while most businesspeople will change genre, audience, budget or sales route, they will normally only change 1 or 2 of them at a time. 500K zombie makers might up to 2M zombies or 500K uni life rom coms but not Marigold Hotel 4).
