Where can I get a grant or funds for my YouTube project?

2 years, 5 months ago - Mark Simpson Wedge

Hello.

I want to create the most ambitious YouTube project I’ve ever done. I’ve already put up an advert about it on the website under the title “Defenders – YouTube project".

A friend of mine suggested that I should get in touch with certain companies who can give grants or fund media projects. This could be very useful as my project has a very low budget. If I had a higher budget, I would then have enough money to hire locations that are too expensive and I could pay for actors (not just expenses).

Please can someone recommend which companies I should ask for a grant/fundings? Obviously, I don’t want to ask all the companies at the same time. I would ask one company at a time if the previous one says no.

I can't use websites like Kickstarter because I want to keep the project a surprise for my followers.

Thank you.

Best places to approach are ones connected with you/your channel/your locality.

People don't often just hand out money for nothing - what's in it for the company/individual? How do you relate your project to be something the business might want to get behind? Tailor your requests and see if you can ask for non-monetary assistance - for instance if you're looking for a location, ask if you can borrow the location for half a day instead of asking a third party for money which you then spend on a location at market rates.

Just a couple of thoughts
