Where can I get location insurance and how much will it cost?

HEY ALL,

Looking for location insurance for a cafe to cover damages from equipment to belongings in the cafe for one day only, how much would it cost and where is the best place to get it. Can you get a student discount?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have public liability insurance I need location insurance to cover me if the equipment ruins anything in the cafe. Thanks

You could try towergate or doodson but as such an unknown quantity and as a non-professional crew and for such a short period you will not get any great deals and probably hit minimum premiums making a day, week or month all cost the same.

Instead I would suggest leaving a bond of say £1000 with the cafe owner against damages, and expect to get it back once you sort the place out and leave it clean and tidy.

Insurance will likely cost more for students than for trained professionals as they represent a higher risk. For instance a qualified experienced electrician gaffer with a reputation is a safer bet than an enthusiastic amateur

Hello Victoria,

No you can't get a student discount but all the media specialists will do a short term PLI document - I think they can do one day. Try the company "media insurance brokers" or http://www.essexinsurancebrokers.com (and say Lorna from Location Works said you should call!). It depends how much the cafe is worth but will prob cost £100 - £400 OR if you are studying as part of a university course they will definitely have PLI they can let you use... which will save you spending anything!
