Where do I get bugs from?

12 years, 2 months ago - Brendan Cleaves

I know this is a strange question, but I need loads of bug for a music promo.

I know I could head to the woods and dig up loads but there must be somewhere that sells them. I also don't want to kill any (at least keep bug death to a minimum) and in the interest of animal cruelty would rather do it properly.

I'm talking Creepy Crawlies that don't bite (preferably).

Thanks

Fishing shops sell live maggots by the pint
Fancy pretty shops sell live grasshoppers for snakes and lizard food

However, how do you plan on disposing of/releasing your new pets to the wild? Will they eat all the roses in the neighbourhood or freeze to death? It's hard, being God!

Oh, you can also grows your own maggots pretty easily leaving some meat to rot, ideally a carcass, within hours the flies will find it and within days their eggs will hatch to maggots! The smell will gross out the neighbours though...

You could try contacting local zoos etc as they have more exotic insects depending on what you're after and then you give them back when finished, I should imagine they'd send and expert along with them or maybe allow you to shoot at the zoo

Hi Brendan, check these guys out: http://www.animalswork.co.uk/. I've hired some bugs from them before for a film, highly recommended. Cheers, Lyndon
