Where to source old factory machinery...and how to bring it to life?

Hi all
Thanks to everyone who chipped in with my last question about how to drown a dog- very useful and has given us plenty of food for thought!

Same short film, a different question. Has anyone got any recommendations of where we may be able to source old factory machinery - eg 1950s/60s era, old, rusty etc - and then good ways of bringing it to life. By this I mean clever uses of light, effects, camera work, editing, to give the impression the machinery was moving, moving towards us, threateningly etc.
As with before, all of this is for a film on a very limited budget- so no fancy post-production etc is possible!
