Will my short film ever get made?

5 years ago - Josh Rose

I've been shortlisted and won competitions with my short film script but it's still yet to be made.
The budget is very low with only 2 actors (and another who is on screen for a few seconds), one bedroom and one scene.
I've spoken to an industry professional who says it can be made on as little as £500, unfortunately £500 isn't little for me and there's no way I can fund it myself.

I believe in my script a lot and it's now been 4 years since I wrote it.

I'd film it myself on an iphone but if it's going to be made I want it to look and sound professional.

What can I do to get it made?

I'm based in london and I have no connections to any filmmakers.

Have you tried putting your script up on the shooting people Script Pitch?

Hi Alwyne, I've put it up on the script pitch which is a brilliant initiative. I'd like to know what else I can be doing other than entering competitions because I'm being told I can make it independently and that it is a good script I just don't know how to increase my chances of making it happen

I see now that it is a LGBT themed film. Funding bodies tend to look favourably on such projects. You might want to look at https://filmlondon.org.uk/what-we-do to see if they fund shorts. And the BFI definitely does fund shorts - https://www2.bfi.org.uk/sites/bfi.org.uk/files/downloads/bfi-network-short-film-funding-guidelines-2019-02.pdf

They'll be other places too so get googling.

Also, as £500 is not a substantial sum, I think anyone with an average-sized circle of friends and relatives could expect to raise that amount via crowdfunding. Have you considered that route?

Hi Josh, the best way to find collaborators is by posting into Production (Get Cast & Get Crew) https://shootingpeople.org/production/ whilst we encourage people to list paid roles, sometimes members are willing to work for expenses only, in order to get some experience or to help each other out. You might find some willing participants who want to come on board to help you. Good luck

Hi Josh,
I've love to read the synopsis or treatment for your film script if you have one and don't mind sharing?

Your Shooting People profile lists a number of things that I love too! Unorthodox, Donnie Darko, Christopher Nolan, The Wachowskis.

I'm from the LGBT+ community, and also from a charity background too.
My first documentary, released this year, is being distributed by Channel4 and Film4.

I am looking for a scripted film to get involved in and develop my skills as a cinematographer.

If your story connects to me and I think i'm a good fit perhaps we should talk?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Matt
