I've just started using Filmfreeway as well as Withoutabox. Is it me, or is Filmfreeway miles better in every way?

I agree with Karel, depends on how good your film is and what your Festival Circuit budget is, use both. If you are entering Festivals that costs £20-£50. You have got to ask yourself the question. Well my film get seen at the Festival and how many people are putting submissions in? i.e. 2000 submissions and 60 film places. That's 33.333 to 1 odds.

Also, if you enter Festivals that are £10-£20, what are the chances again at your film being seen at the Festival and how many people are putting submissions in?

The Festivals like Leeds International Film Festival is using Freefilmway or Withoutabox. I personally use FreeFilmway and Festhome.

Well good luck.

Kind Regards,

Steven Corton.

I came across this article the other day, which gives you some history behind Withoutabox and their patent for a festival submission database/software. (Stephen Follows does some really interesting research on the movie making business.)

In my experience Filmfreeway indeed is better in every way than Withoutabox. You should avoid Withoutabox at all cost as it is screwing over filmmakers and festivals alike, trying to build a monopoly. It is only in recent years that good alternatives like Filmfreeway, Festhome and Filmfestivallive have begun to surface. There is even a Facebook group called 'Filmmakers and festivals against Withoutabox'.

FilmFreeway is by far the best festival submission platform, simple layout, easy to use. loads of free festivals etc However there are some high profile festivals festivals like the recent HBO run ABFF which you can only enter via withoutabox. So unfortunately you probably have to use both. Short Film Depot is also good and has tier 1 and 2 festivals which are not as expensive as the ones on withoutabox. Since last wednesday when they overhauled the withoutabox website, some filmmakers have been having trouble uploading their films, so watch out for that.

Many festivals only use one, so use both.

Thanks for this. Hopefully, the bigger festivals will start using platforms other than Withoutabox. Their monopoly has gone on too long.
