Woody Allen on showing up

10 years, 4 months ago - Charles Harris

This is a great extract from a Woody Allen interview and it sums up for me the importance of what I call the Mental Game. That talent or – despite the X Factor – wanting to be successful isn’t enough on its own, and never was.

I'm discussing it in the latest article in my Write On blog:

Great advice as usual Charles, having been on one of your courses I know you encouraged us to be do'ers not just hearers. I'm Trying to do with very limited funds and having some success due to setting time goals and then making it happen with the limited resources and other passionate film makers to help. I would advise others to get hold of or write a decent script and then just go and make it happen. The momentum comes as you step forward. I hope to see and hear of many success stories from shooters in the future

Good stuff Charles. He's talking about... stop talking about it and go out and do it! Good advice. There is a lot of hot air in the creative arts. Luck happens when you make it happen.

Reminds me of a favorite quote from Spielberg when asked what the hardest part of making a movie is. His response..."Getting out of the car on the first day of shooting."
