Hi I am a director and currently looking for a feature film script and a passionate writer to collaborate with. I am looking for a story that tells me something about our human condition in an imaginative and creative way. All genres are welcome, except horror.

Please send a one page synopsis and your favourite scene of the script to

Hi Martin-Christopher,
Are we limited to only sending you one? I have several screenplays in different genres that I think might be suitable for you.
Thanks,
James

Dear Martin

I think one of my scripts might fit the bill. It certainly concentrates on the human condition and I'm told it's a great story. However, rather than being 'hip' 'modern' and 'alternative' it uses a traditional rural theme vs a modern technological one. I've included a short synopsis below.

Harry McCarthy is a 75 year old man who lives a lonely life in a dilapidated cottage in the country. By day he works part time in a local bookmakers. His wife died recently and he has little reason not to follow her. However he still goes through the motions of day-to-day life. Previously (35 years ago) Harry was a successful turf accountant (bookmaker) until he was conned by a trusted colleague Rod butler, which led to his downfall.

Rod Buttler has moved on to own a string of betting shops and is now a multimillionaire. He influences and corrupts the horseracing industry using his money and power to influence and destroy the lives of both trainers, jockeys and their families.

One day Harry meets with his old friend Jo (a farrier) who lives with her partner Alice and their adopted child Sarah, who has Leukaemia. Harry then travels to London pawns his late wife’s Jewellery and releases the equity on the property he owns. He comes out of retirement to conceive a plan that will level the score and leave Rod Butler both financially crippled and at the mercy of the authorities.

Harry plans to run an ingenious book at the Cheltenham Festival, which will take millions from Butler, and reveal his race-fixing. However, he cannot do it alone, and when Jo discovers Harry’s intentions (quite by accident) he joins him to orchestrate the ‘con’, which will liberate those being blackmailed and threatened by Butler and generate millions of pounds. The final scene turns on the most prestigious race at the festival, ‘The Gold Cup’, where Butler has blackmailed both trainer and jockey to ‘pull’ the race on the hot favourite, a horse Harry relies on to win in order to pull of the coup.
