Writing detective story

2 years, 9 months ago - Elie de Rosen

Hi everyone,

I'm writing a short detective story. Although it's structurally sound, I'm struggling to create an interesting second act. If you have experience writing detective stories, I could really use your advice.

I've written a detective novel but a short detective film. However, I've written many short films and made some. If you want to use the Hero's Journey it can provide some pointers e.g. an 'end' at the 3/4 point. Or you could just focus on the midpoint and that will direct you i.e. what happens up to it and what happens after. I'll be covering the different types of midpoint in my next book.

Thanks Merlin. Let me know when your next book comes out. I've pretty much sorted out my story, but I still have a lot to learn about writing detective investigations.
