The Volunteers

From Mark Hammett

About the film:

The story of a young British born Asian man who volunteers to work at a care home for the elderly, and gets an unexpected history lesson from a seemingly embittered World War II veteran. From an original story by new writer Santosh Sandhu, pulled together by a crew of 5 over a weekend, working on a zero budget. The hardest part of making this film was gathering such specific props. Namely a few squadrons of model soldiers from the battle of Imphal and Kohima, and a photograph of a Sikh soldier in British uniform stood next to a white guy in British uniform, circa 1944. Oh... and gaining access to a care home for the elderly was virtually impossible.
