THE MESSAGE:

When I was growing up as a child, I experienced, picked up, and took on habits, traditions, and behaviours from my parents who are from Nigeria. For example, anytime I would meet someone that was from Nigeria and that was older than me, I had to prostrate to show a sign of respect. Now, if I had done this in front of my school mates they would have laughed at me and they would have thought I was weird, but there comes a time in our lives when we become mature and instead of ridiculing our differences, we begin to embrace our differences. As we explore the different cultures and traditions of people, we can make our own judgements to know if something is good for us, and can decide to hold on to it. However, if the culture or traditions are not quite suited to us, we are free to let them go.

In the process of adapting to others it is important to not forget about you, and to not let go of the very essence of who you are. There is an internal struggle when we are trying to be like someone else, because who you are ‘trying to be’ is not in alignment with who you were ‘created to be’. There is a feeling of fear that threatens us when we don’t fit in, but we must push past the fear and discovery our identity! It doesn’t matter what habits, traditions or cultural differences you have, be you! Maybe you have accent, or you have a different hair style, or a unique look - be proud! We are all fearfully and wonderfully made and now is the time to embrace that truth. Nowadays we come across different people from all walks of life, and this episode was created to encourage you to explore and embrace the diversity within our society. Whether it be a culture clash or a language barrier, we are all still humans and we are all still equal. Let us try to approach others with love. Let us learn to treat others how we want to be treated ourselves. Remember your perception of someone else is a reflection of you, so change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.

A great man called St Paul the Apostle said something really profound about love, and if there’s anything I want you to take away from this episode, I want you to take away what he said. It went something like this:

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance”

Be you. Be bold. Be true.

The creation of ‘Pastor LegOverYou’ was to highlight this very issue.

You have a purpose, and you are here for a reason.
You are one of many individuals, yet you make up our population.
You have a voice: Use it.

This video was filmed in Peckham, London, with Intermission Pictures: http://bit.ly/1OVn9t3
