Eazy Meets

From Grace Williams

About the film:

Eazy Meets is a bold debut short from Grace Williams, her first step out of the world of music videos and a compelling piece that ties together strands as diverse as relationships, societal norms, veganism and dating websites in an intriguing tale with a shocking twist!

Developed over a year, this self-funded labour of love expanded from a germ of an idea for a music video to a more layered narrative in short film form. After a stumbling start, with the addition of Lee Christian as producer (no stranger to small budgets and pooling of resources from his time in the music industry), the pre-production process snowballed with lead actress Tabitha Cox as Molly cast only a few days before shooting. Filming itself took just three days - enough time to get everything on the page in the can, plus the luxury of extra takes. This gives the film a great sense of spontaneity and an organic, natural feel.

“The biggest challenge was getting an appropriate location for the film. So, we found a location I rented it and still live here now! This was the perfect option as it meant we could dress the set how we wanted, use it as a working base with changing rooms, toilet and a kitchen. Plus, we didn’t have to inconvenience anyone other than ourselves and maybe a few neighbours who thought we were filming pornographic films! “says Grace.

The editing process was a little longer with multiple edits and extra care taken to do the character’s personalities justice, whilst telling the complex story. The performances are deep and rich, with a memorable turn from Steve Hay (Outlander) as Richard and newcomer Gabriel Hawking (fresh from Equus at the Youth Shakespeare company) sure to make a lasting impression. The cinematography by Jamie Harding (Sixteen) is just as rich.

“We were very lucky to have such a dedicated and professional cast and crew who juggled their diaries to make it all happen” says Grace. “It was a learning curve for us all, I’m sure.”

The soundtrack (curated and in part created by Lee Christian) is almost a supporting member of cast, whether it be reinforcing the character’s personalities via their listening tastes, or subtly underpinning the mood at hand. The editing itself displays the best of both economic and surrealist skills Grace picked up making a diverse array of music videos and other online content, whilst expanding her pallet to include a new mastery of the delivery of tension, build-up and show-stopping, climatic release. Hold on to your stomach!
