Small Talk

From Sam Alani

About the film:

Small Talk is a story about communication and imagination, told via a mute girl's quest to regain her widowed father's inspiration for life. Eva is a seven-year-old mute who communicates with the outside world through her father's pre-recorded tapes, played on a bulky tape-deck that perpetually hangs around her neck. Eva notices a spark between her father and Maggie, his Physiotherapist, and hopes her dreams of a complete family and her fathers happiness seem within reach. However, his treatment is drawing to a close and crippled by his own sadness he seems powerless to act. Mustering all the bravery she can, she escapes the flat and enters the housing estate at night where the shadows seem darker and infinitely more terrifying to her. Her ultimate aim to reach the opposite tower block and communicate to Maggie what her father could not.
