Is the sound clipping, or is it compression artefacting? If the latter, look at the audio bitrate which is separate from the video bitrate. 30fps ought to be irrelevant.
I like the look of painted matte shots and am not so keen on digital. Though if a digital picture could be printed on glass that might be acceptable.
