INDEXA positive end to a long slimy process in The Creeping Garden.

Way back on Shooting People I introduced our slime mould documentary The Creeping Garden which was in the last stages of post production and as a couple of people showed some interest I wanted to follow up with news that this little low budget oddity has gone on to win its first award at Fantastic Fest, Austin for Best Documentary Directors, and also get accepted at a line of exciting festivals including CPH:DOX and Leeds as well as finding North American distribution.
It wasn't shot on anything fancy and cost about the price of a bus ticket but it is really positive that with the good fortune of finding a fresh untapped subject, finding generous, selfless contributors and crew, and working to the absolute limits of just the means available it got made and on the radar of audiences.
So for all the lo-fi unconventional DIY film-makers out there (like us) who cant afford the latest lovely 4k camera kit, its the content and approach that can really bring a film to life, and its amazing how good a seemingly outdated bunch of cameras can look with a bit of imagination.
If you happen to be in London on November 19th and need a slime fix we are screening at the ICA cinema and if you want to find out more, then have a look at the website http://www.creepinggarden.com
thanks. Tim

Ah! Style indeed. Cannes would be nice but not sure i will be there. Might have to be a more modest compromise in a bar somewhere in London!...

@Tim iloobia Woooo... At the risk of sounding like a stalker, I recall there was a return address in Tufnell Park on the envelope when I bought the Kanzeon DVD a while back. Speaking of which, I always smile when walking the dog and listening to music on shuffle and suddenly the sound of rain in a Japanese forest or some monk hitting something metal comes up.

Cheers Nick. There has been precious little in the way of a detailed creative response to the slime mould which was why it was such a gift as a subject for a feature doc, and it is indeed a fascinating organism. We became fully obsessed after the three years or so we worked on it, especially when growing them for long periods in the studio. Little slimy pets. And if you miss the nov ICA screening we are arranging another there in December.. are you London based?

Hi Tim, great work.
I saw a (Horizon?) doc about slime moulds in the 80's/90's and have been interested ever since. This sounds genuinely fascinating. I'll try and come to the ica screening.
