ASK & DISCUSS
INDEXAnybody else think the Slamdance application this year is ridiculous?

They asked for everything but your blood type. I felt like I was being interrogated by the NSA. ALL fields are REQUIRED, and there is no "Prefer not so say" options.
Basically I've decided to stop entering all screenwriting contests that are more obsessed with bloodlines than the quality of the story, the character development, audience appeal and professionalism of the script.

That doesn't sound good. To not have prefer not to say makes no sense.
Here at SP - we've been thinking for some time we'd like to introduce a Peer-to-Peer script review service.
Be interested in your and any other writers thoughts.
Core idea is you upload your script, get matched to three peers, based on the content of your script. Each writer will receive three detailed reviews, while providing feedback/analysis on three scripts from their fellow group members.
Is this something that would be useful to you?

Hi, Cath,
I think that sounds like a great idea.
We writers are solitary creatures and this would be a nice feature, especially for writers in the early stages of their career and for everyone in the early stages of script development.
Let me know if when you're proceeding.
Keep up the great work in this very turbulent period of independent film which seems (or am I fantasizing?) to be rising like a phoenix from underneath the bootheel of the studio system.

New to the SP community and the London entertainment scene and I would be very interested in a peer-to-peer script review service!

Hi Marie,
This is a London based women oriented writers' collective that seem fairly active. They have a WhatsApp group too. They have regular meet ups at a bar called The Glitch.

Hi Shiva,
Good to see you're still about (albeit from across crowded rooms these days).
It looks like you can sidestep the interrogation in Slamdance's Direct Form by entering via FilmFreeway - which offers the 'anonymity' you're after (albeit for an extra $2.50 handling charge). And the latter route would seem to go for any number of competitions that you crave. Even so, $65 for early-bird seems steep, with it being such a long shot anyway. With the industry only reading the "top scripts" there's ambiguity as to whether that means finalists or just the winner in each category.
All best wishes,
Barry

Hi, Barry,
Always to see you, where in person in cyberspace.
I'll take a look at that and see if there is a way to sidestep it.
Getting great nibbles on three different project - their jaws around it, but they're just mouthing it and hesitating to bite!
Let us see what happens.
Hope to see you at R|D in Marhc.
Keep writing, keep fighting.
Not that you need any encouragement!

Oh hi Shiva,
In that case I'd pretend to be a black lesbian muslim quadriplegic. Might tick all the boxes they're after.
OR write to them and mention how absurd it is. The ONLY thing that matters is what name you'd like to be known by.

Hi all,
Can someone provide a link to the application form in question, please?
Thanks,
James

Hi, James,
I originally tried to enter Slamdance through Coverfly. They have removed a few Required Fields, including Income and a couple others that I can't remember.
Gender now has Prefer Not to Say option, but not Ethnicity.

Hope this helps.
