INDEXAre trailers getting worse?

Of the 5 trailers I saw this weekend, not one gave me any idea what the film was about. Don't the producers know anything about marketing or are they so dependent on idiots who only care about explosions that the story doesn't matter?
Am I alone in wanting to have some notion of what the story is all about before clunking down 12 bucks to give it a try?

To me, if there are a bunch of explosions in the trailer, that means this is the kind of movie that has no real storyline anyway.

There's one device that's been used to death for a long time now. Usually in comedy or awkward-comedy/drama trailers where the music suddenly stops for a brief 'funny' line... - before the track starts up again. The Moneyball trailer was a big offender

... though you can pick any new trailer at random and it's likely to be riddled with it - http://youtu.be/96TelFMZwHc

I think that's always been the case with blockbuster flicks, which is almost always are aimed for a sensationalist effect, which sadly, sells well, but there are good trailers out there.

During awards season (when I've got what seems like a million films to see to vote on), I try not to watch the trailers b/c sadly so many of them tell too much and then within the first 5 minutes of viewing the actual film, I know where it's all going.
If you are self-producing...I guess you could have several told from different characters and then test it to see what people liked and what motivated them to come to your screening, but your ticket.

Frankly I don't want trailers to give too much away. Too often these days I'm told the entire story in the trailer and so feel I don't need to see the movie.

I once saw a bunch of trailers for one blockbuster after another, and every single one had the BOOM .... BOOM orchestra track with a flash of what was supposed to be a dramatic image, and then more than one trailer became a parody of itself by having another round of BOOM ... BOOM ... They wouldn't bloody stop! Trailers far too long full of absolutely nothing.

Trailers are frequently deceptive, I know I've seen films on the back of the trailer...and walked out wondering if it was even the same film! Trailers are often geared towards the opening weekend, get people's money before the reviews hit the papers, so if it's all whizbang it could be a sign of a film that won't stand up well the next week!
