I was lucky enough to get STRAY, my micro budget psycho/drama, launced on Amazon and GooglePlay a week ago. I'm responsible for doing my own PR. I need comments and ratings on Amazon (it's free if you have Amazon Prime. This will move my film up the que and the film will get more exposure. I'm confused? ...You want us to pay to watch your film and then take time out of our day to give you feedback? If you really want genuine feedback why are you not supplying a link to a free a screener?

In the U.S., if you have Amazon Prime, it IS free (or more accurately, included in Prime membership). She did point this out in her post.
I don't think it's beyond the pale to ask for a little support from a filmmaking community of which she is a member.

Of course what a real PR person does is send out a selection of prepared statements to everyone they know, asking them to copy/paste into every review site they can find, though "if you can add your wrinkle, even better".

Thank you Christopher! But I have to admit I have a distributor. I decided after tons of research to go with a small company (IndieRights) rather than an agregator in order to get the best VOD release for STRAY. Not sure yet if it was the right choice but will let you know. lol. I'm responsible for all PR BUT STRAY will be going to AFM via the dist. so that's a plus. I've hired a PR firm, October Coast, to help. They've been terrific. Bottom line, next time I think I do self-dist.

Hi Marlom, actually I did hire a great PR guy, Clint Morris from a company called October Coast. They've sent out releases, hooked me up with e-interviews and even radio interviews. Nice people I highly recommend and really affordable. Don't actually know yet, if the hire will produce actual revenue. Still, I'm glad I did.

Zoe, what a nice message! It was a lot of work. Definately the hardest thing I've ever done. Wearing all the hats in pre-pro and post because I couldn't afford to hire the right people for the right job. I'm located in the US otherwise I'd love coffee! Are you directing this film? Producing? One of the biggest advantages you have, I think, is that you have access to fabulously talented actors. Unions limit us tremendously here. It continuous to amaze me how US directors treat actors as a necessary evil as opposed to their separating the brilliant film from the mediocre. You're several steps ahead just by living where you do! I wish you a world of luck with your film. If there's anything I can do from here, just let me know. Nena

@nena eskridge Hi Nena. I'm producing and acting in the film and working with a self-shooting writer-director. Your description of the relationship between actors and directors in the US is really interesting. I have to say that when producing a film (I have worked on a couple of shorts) finding amazing actors is never something I worry about as, you're right, we have a wealth of talent here and it is easy to access (if you can avoid difficult agents). I think actors take things for granted too - so many of us are keen to move to the States. Maybe we shouldn't be! Given that we can't manage coffee, would you be up for a Skype chat? (Remote coffee :)). Thanks Zoe
