ASK & DISCUSS
INDEXBS on the script pitch bulletin

So, I open the script pitch bulletin, thinking it's not going to have the same annoying crappy short courses and discussions as are on the other bulletins. Now, it has them, and not only are they NOT aimed at the people who should be reading the script pitch (producers and directors), they are aimed at writers.
I preferred the script pitch when the pitches only had to compete with other scripts for attention.
What, is shooting people a short-course marketplace now? Does it exist for the filmmakers, or for those offering short courses? Even with unpaid jobs being the majority, those are crowded out by short courses.
I'd like to suggest bringing script pitch back to the way it was, pitches only and aimed at producers and perhaps directors. If someone wants to take a screenwriting course, they'll read the screenwriting bulletin.
Perhaps there could be an education bulletin for anyone who actually wants to read those annoying short course adverts. (Note, most of those courses never get any deeper than reading one book. A few of them never get deeper than reading a chapter in a book.)

Well there you go. Kelie saves the day. Maybe an email to admin might have been the place to start?

Paddy, I can understand the benefits of having some of this in the bulletins (although Shooting People could charge more to those advertising courses than those merely discussing and looking for workers.)
What I find annoying is where these posts are going. Script Pitch is not a place I look for discussion or courses or screenplay feedback. I went to Script Pitch this morning to see, if by the off chance, there were any projects I was interested in. If not, I'd close it. I purposely didn't open the other bulletins because I didn't want to see any of those courses. But, those other topics distracted me.
And, it's not discussions on how to use a camera or finance or any of that. It's the same advertisements they throw in the screenwriters bulletin. It's like Shooting People acknowledging that no producers or directors look at script pitch, only writers.
I liked it better before, when there was at least the illusion that script pitch was about putting your script in front of producers.

Hi Vasco,
Thank you for raising this point, we agree with this and in future we will make a conscious effort to not post training courses into the script pitch bulletin.
Thanks,
Kelie

I'm divided about this - SP have to keep the lights on, and £30/year is not particularly big money in this industry, so carrying ads may mean it keeps the subs costs down.
On the other hand, there are a lot of courses out there appealing to wannabe film industry entrants who love the idea more than the reality. They live vicariously through courses to feel they're part of things and just biding their time as another year passes. There's an industry around ambition, hence all the film festivals with submission costs but no real audience beyond other applicants.
