Camera phone 25 fps

8 years, 2 months ago - Andrew Ionides

Good evening all,

I am shooting a short 'found footage' film as part of an anthology film and wish to shoot it on a smartphone. However the distributor has requested all films to be shot at 25fps.

Does anyone know if there are smartphones out there that will shoot 25fps as most seem to be either 30 or 60fps?

If there isn't is there a solution for shooting in 30fps and convertin into 25fps?

Many thanks

Andrew

Of course one doesn't actually have to shoot on a smart phone to tell a story purporting to have been shot on one. Almost any low cost HD 1080 video camera offers 25fps and better operating parameters and especially sound. One can add artifacts to the pictures that suggest a smart phone in post.

Transcode to 25fps? It seems a strange requirement as long as delivery is at 25fps and looks good.

You can do this with MPeg Streamclip. Export it to any frame rate you want.

Thank you all. I'm exploring my options so yes I will look into the low cast video camera option.

I did a test of exporting the footage from Galaxy S5 using a HD 1070i 25 in Premiere Pro. On playback I didn't really see a difference so I'm hoping this may be okay too.

I had a look at MPeg Streamclip which requires a Window 10 PC so I will also have a look at that.

Anymore suggestions welcome

Almost any transcoder will do this, so a couple of free ones are SUPER (counterintuitive interface, but powerful) and Handbrake. I think both use the FFMPEG libraries under the covers. If you want to spend money, Sorenson Squeeze has some cool extra features and commercial codecs.

I hear Handbrake has a mac virus in it at the moment.

Another quick question related to this, someone has recommended a Nokia Lumia 1020 or 808 to film on as thsee allow you to film at 25 or 24 fps... Has anyone used these before?

Seems what you need is the Filmic Pro app It's available for iphone and android.. You can set it to shoot 25fps. Check it out here - http://www.filmicpro.com/
