Can anyone recommend a good MA course in the UK that would be suited for experimental/arthouse type of filmmaking? thanks

I am not so interested in the film industry. I come from a fine art background and see film as just another art form.

You don't need a Masters degree to make experimental films, of course. That said, the more experimental your films, the more likely you are to be marked on paperwork. At Lampeter we had people make experimental films (I started out doing an experimental dissertation, but they didn't get the purpose.)

Of course, they all want your money, so you'll get plenty of great sales pitches.

If your bent on going to more schooling, I would suggest doing a fine art MA, and use film in the dissertation. Go to a photography school. I've seen fine art students use film in Aberystwyth, and their work is very experimental. Sometimes, it even has a story. The people I know doing MAs in photography here are very happy. (If you're more interested in performance, I'd go for drama. In most UK schools, film is not a serious subject, in those where it is, they tend to study the industry and economics. France and the USA are 100 times better.)
