INDEXCan anyone recommend a script reading service for television screenplays?

Hi there,
I'm looking at submitting material for screenwriting competitions, and need someone to go over stuff I've written. I've seen £120 for 50-120 pages, so don't know if that's the going rate, or if there's any others.
Thanks
David

I work with a great script editor - Ellin Stein - who also teaches script writing at Goldsmiths.

Mention me if you get in contact with her.

David, there's a scriptwriter called Danny Stack who has a number of television writing credits, especially at the BBC, who runs a blog called "Scriptwriting in the UK" and he does offer a script reading service. It just so happens that he's announced he is wanting more submissions so you can contact him at dstack30@hotmail.com

Clete Stallbaumer, a scriptwriter friend of mine in Los Angeles, said that he normally can find someone to read a script and write a report on it for ~$100-200, so £120 seems fair. Clete stressed the importance of getting a stranger to do this, regretfully turning down my 100 bucks to read Comrade Sir Henry's latest masterpiece.

One pound a page is reasonable. For this you should get information on the story line, the characters and how they fit, any inconsistencies and irrelevancies, production difficulties, with suggestions that might solve some of the problems where appropriate. It is important to get someone otherwise unconnected with you, for an objective view. It will remain one persons view, but more objective and experienced than your own.
I can provide this service, on a variable rate. The better the script the longer I will spend on it, so the more it will cost, with a pound a page as the top rate, and a quick free return at the other end.

Hi David,
I recommend Sarah Olley - who I've worked with several times - http://www.scriptsurgery.co.uk/
The rate you mentioned is definitely the going rate of the average script reader - paying much less often leads to inarticulate reports - and I would hasten to add that it would be better to use somebody who's sole profession is script reading/development as they, for the most part, are fully attuned to offering the best advice for your work.
Hope it works out and good luck in the competitions.
Andy

Best thing I can advise is to check who trained the script editor! There are some god ones out there, and although £120 is the rate for someone with a name , like Industrial Scripts, who are good, there are also some less expensive ones, so shop around and find someone you can work with This means that you can afford professional support to help you develop any suggestions or ideas put forwards in a report. One of the problems I had when I was learning was regular good feedback - sometimes a single report, even a good one, just isn't enough when you are really serious about breaking into the industry
