INDEXCan anyone recommend insightful books about producing for film and TV?

I am a producer of independent / short projects and am looking for some interesting, insightful books about producing on a professional level.
Has anyone read or heard about anything they'd recommend? I'm looking for something that isn't merely a how-to / step-by-step guide, but that has some theory, historical context, case studies and / or more in-depth insights.
Thank you in advance!

Hmmm producing is somewhat more practical and immediate than dogmatic! Producing is 'find a market, do what works, make a film, sell it for more than it cost to make, repeat'. History doesn't help a whole heap as it was a different landscape, theory I outlined above, case studies you might get from biographies of producers (but there aren't many), insights are more likely to come from off-the-record chats where nobody can prove who slurred who and why ;-)
My 2p ;-)

If you're looking for something outside of the nuts and bolts of producing, try Christine Vachon's book: Shooting to Kill. She started the production company, Killer Films. And it's all about the indie scene, since that's the kind of movies she produces.

I would also recommend Christine Vachon's "A Killer Life". Also worth a gander is "Inside Stories: Diaries of British Film-makers at Work", which is literally diaries from established Producers, Director, Writer, Actors, Cinematographers etc...
