Hi. Well, depends on your budget as well. The Canon D5 delivers a good quality video (In Mexico i have seen commercials shoot on this one and then displayed on movie theaters) and also you can have interchangeable lenses. The catch with this type of cameras (DSLR) is that they record environmental sound, including the sounds of the camera. For good sound you could get an additional boom microphone. (check RODEO) I get most of my equipment from amazon or the company home page. But this last part depends also of the country you are.

If you want something more introductory... try the vixia series of canon camcorders. Small, large view-screens, full HD and good quality image.

But again, depends of your needs and budget. What is described above is what a lot of indie producers are using in UK, with some extra equipments.

Hope this was helpfull.

I have used Canon 5D in my last shoot, it has really good picture quality, but as mentioned by Francisco, the sound is a big issue, I had to record the sound externaly (external recorder). However, Canon has fixed the problem on the 7D or 5D mark 3, but it comes with a cost, for 7D or 5D mark 3 you are looking at over £1000 pounds, for 5D mark 2, it costs around £800 body only, the lenses costs around £300.

Happy shooting

Why say Canon unless you already have the lenses? Nikon and Sony are pretty good too, if you're just doing standard shooting.

In camera sound on a dslr will be rubbish. Get an external mic, not attached to the camera, and sinc them in post.

The 550D shoots full HD, but I guess people don't like the viewfinder.

600D have pretty nice viewer, 650D doesn't convince me it has anything on the 600D, and the higher marks are made of magnesium and have higher quality still shots. The cheaper ones are plastic, and less weather resistant, but still do great HD (especially if it's only for web work.) I think 650D and below will drop frames, on occasion, but I've seen no guarantee that the top ones don't do the same.

Also, DSLRs have a limit in take length, which might make a difference to some people, especially those shooting documentary. They aren't video cameras, and it's a built in weakness (something to do with VAT, apparently).

Make sure to get a good card, like extreme pro, as the slower cards will drop frames and stall at an irritating rate.

Places to look include Jessops, Currys, Apple Store, Amazon, and just about anywhere that sells electronics.

Lenses really depend on what you want to do. They may be harder to find
