Thanks for posting the link Huw.

Also from SP'er Bryan Ferguson @bryanmferguson:

'@Channel4 were the first people crazy enough to fund any of my work and they were completely supportive and hands off no matter how weird it got. I owe them a lot, we all do. Please sign this petition to stop the privatisation of C4'

I'm on it. C4 takes chances which is what gives our current cultural landscape the texture and variety it has. We shouldn't privatise a station that WE ALL OWN and which MAKES A SURPLUS so the profits can be privatised and all risk-taking diluted. To be clear, this is something you already own being taken from you and sold off.

That Nadeen Doris is a lying menace to society. It's hopefully not going to happen. Even sensible Tories are against it.

You've probably seen this, but she doesn't even know how it works!

No stone shall be left unturned when it comes to privatization, especially today. In order to keep it public, you would not only need to think about how not to let this particular privatization happen, but also consider all the pathways through which the decision power in the public sphere can be steered by private means, and consequently how to block _all_ the exits simultaneously. But that also leads to an escalation of means. After all why influence (or be the very source of) funds and provided support when you can directly influence what the creators decide to make and the audiences decide to watch in the first place (or eventually create with AI and only use human creators where needed). Or just block on platforms all those who may try to make movies that you don't want people to see because it may hurt your investments or your strategy and nudge the rest, obtaining the social shapes and returns you want by the negative, clearing everything other than that shape. Influence on the creatives is already quite strong. Creatives tend to orient themselves mostly on investor demands, knowingly or not.

Not that people working in other industries don't.
We are all mine workers of sorts, and that at every level of society.

Except, one might add, that some mine workers die in great numbers, others not so much.

@Lloyd Raworth You would be surprised.

That sounds interesting! I feel like a bit of an imposter on this thread as I’ve not watched TV or even owned one for over 20 years. One of the last things I remember watching was an early Phil Mulloy animation on Channel 4 – it was very short, just a bunch of crudely painted stick figures walking around vomiting up swastikas – so it seems rather tragic that people like Nadine Dorries are afforded any say in its future.

@Lloyd Raworth Yes it is: enough for me to be working on it.

Don't worry I don't own a TV either.
