There are tons of gunshot sounds in any sound library. No need to try and record it, as it will sound like crap. I'm sure you can find gunshots for free on-line. If you don't find something you like, try layering different gunshots on separate tracks. Play with the EQ and volume of each until you get what you need.

Drop me an email at jamgamache@googlemail.com. I've got a huge library of sounds and we've (Sound Disposition) have designed the sound for over 100 feature films, including those with lots and lots of guns (The Sweeney).

Let's connect and I'll see what I can throw together. Gunshots are more than just one element to enhance the realism you need to be adding the bullet/explosion/shot sound but then mixing it with a metallic cap sound, wizz by, bullet hitting the floor etc.
