INDEXCO-WRITER Wanted for Scripts: Tarantino meets Woody AlleN
9 years ago - Hitomi Kanezaki
I am looking for a writing partner who will help polish my scripts as I am not a native English speaker, I am Japanese. I have some scripts and I am confident of the stories, but the dialogue and the flow of the descriptions/action paragraphs, I'm sure, could use some work.
Beyond the script polishes, I am hoping for a true writing partner - someone who will be in the room alongside me for pitch meetings, write query letters with me, etc. When we sell the scripts, there will be a share in the profits.
One of my original scripts got feedback from The Black List and he/she said, 'it has a Tarantino meets Woody Allen vibe.' Think that's a style that would interest you?
I want to work with someone who has similar tastes as me. My favorite writers include Murakami Haruki, Hemingway, Dostoyevsky and John Updike. My favorite movies are Annie Hall, Blue Valentine, Inception, A life Less Ordinary and (500) Days of Summer. And musically, how can you not love John Lennon and the Beatles?
Share with me your favorite writers and movies. Thank you!

Where do you live, Hitomi? I'm certainly curious about a Tarantino/Allen composite!

Hahaha! I'm in Los Angeles, and want to get into Japan. Seriously! I'm working on a novel partly set in Japan, but mostly Los Angeles. I'm on the last chapter of the last draft, and hopefully will be finished over the next few months. Maybe we can help each other out, creatively (I'm no Murakami, though! He's my favorite author). Please email me at Dan@DVcameraRigs.com If you want to send your script, I'll be happy to read it. じゃまたねー

Im looking for a writing partner myself but I'm in London. Totally into your style and likes. Im guessing Japan/London might be a bit tricky to co-ordinate but I really hope you find a cool partner soon! Good luck!

Hi Paul,
Thank you for saying so. I want to create something new. The more it is tricky, the more it will be interesting, I hope. Good luck you too!

Hello. I'm a writer/director and lived in Kanazawa, Ishikawa for many years and have a fairly good understanding of Japanese culture and the way Japanese interpret the English language. I've written a feature script based in Japan that has done well in screenwriting competitions (currently in preproduction) and two others that involve Japanese characters living abroad (one low budget feature I'm directing starting next week!) I seem to enjoy writing stories about the collision of cultures. Sometimes it's comic, sometimes tragic. A lot of the dialogue in the Japan based feature 'The Origami Man' was most definitely inspired by Tarantino's best dialogue (Pulp Fiction, True Romance - which he wrote but didn't direct). And coincidentally, i just watched Manhattan the other night again as it has some similarities to the film I'm directing next week called 'The Bones on Greenwich Shore'. Anyway, if you are still looking for collaboration, get in touch at kenbarnes0503@gmail.com and we can see how it goes!

Hi Ken. I've not watched Japanese films and not read Japanese novels except for three authors who were very influenced by English and American literature. So, if you wanted very Japanese things, I think I cannot offer you. The collision of culture is not my theme and mixing up culture is my theme, I guess. Still are you interested in me?? Hitomi
