Based on my own experience producing 'The Fitzroy' campaign on Kickstarter, I've blogged about what I think are the top 5 most common crowd funding mistakes film makers do that can be easily be fixed.

I'd like to add one more common mistake: not personally thanking each and every one of your donors. I have both raised money on Kickstarter and been a backer for several projects. For my own project, I considered it common courtesy--nobody HAD to part with their hard earned cash to help me get my film made, and it was important for me to let them know that it was genuinely appreciated. And a donor, those projects that thanked me personally were far and away more likely to get my money again when they had a follow-up campaign to get the film distributed after it was made.

Hi James
Thanks for your post it was really useful. I suppose ultimately people have to work with what they have and that includes the talent and the people they choose to include in the collaborative process at the start.
I think like you said the rewards have to be thought through really well and obviously the more people you have to help you raise money the more money you will probably make.
I am looking to raise money shortly for my feature but will probably only use kickstarter as part of the fund raising initiative.
I would like to hear more about your actual 'campaign'

Glad you got something out of it. We'll be doing a piece about how we did the campaign specifically for 'The Fitzroy soon.

Fair point, though as I mention in the blog the larger the team the more chance of success. I reference Bid for my life which is a good example of a one man band running a campaign. It would be tricky as one person to raise much more than he did, I feel.

I think what would be more interesting is to see small teams with small budgets that succeeded. The examples you have are pretty big (The i am i the film has a massive group of people behind it.)
Perhaps "team too small" is a weakness for many campaigns.
