Crowd-funding

12 years, 7 months ago - Georgia Benjamin

Hello fellow shooters!

I am a 21 year old filmmaker and have recently launched a campaign on the crowd-funding website 'indiegogo.com' with the hope to raise £500 for the short film I'm producing. We've received some very generous contributions and currently are on £221 in just over 2 days. I was wondering if anyone has tried crowd-funding and if you've got any tips/tricks that could help me? We're aiming to shoot in February in Leicester/Sheffield and are in need of funding for the costs for elements such as the art direction and costume (the film is set in 1981). Would love to hear any feedback from anyone who has some experience in crowd-funding their films, here's a link to our campaign http://www.indiegogo.com/adamraisedacain/

If you want to contact me on gbfilmproductions@googlemail.com I'd love to hear from you.
Thank you for reading,
Georgia Benjamin

Hi Georgia
Sounds like you're already doing pretty well! I successfully completed a crowd-funding campaign last year for £2,500. You can read my evaluation of the campaign including what things we did to promote it, which worked and which didn't at: http://neiloseman.com/?p=1651 Hope this helps.
Good luck!
Neil

Hi,
I've had a campaign asking for more money on a smaller platform, but we'd probably have been able to raise the 500 pounds by now. You can see it at the link below.

What we've done is contacted people we know through Facebook, LinkedIn, and elsewhere, to let them know we have a project going. We also told them when we were up for a creative grant, and sent them the link to the video.

Part of the trick is finding the right rewards. We've gotten a couple of contacts who suggested that perhaps our project has commercial potential, in case the crowdfunding fails. And, asking questions like you have has raised awareness.

Set up some websites or social media sites that point to the campaign, and let your friends you that you need their help promoting it. Good luck.
