Hi all! - It seems it was/is the popular thing to be an actor first then be a director. So, how does one go from directing to acting? (Personal question) - Thanks!

Cont.. Could, I suppose, become actors, but not without learning a great deal. (Sorry - not easy on an iPhone...)

huh? OK, there must be more to this question. If you've directed, you know what an actor goes through: classes, agent, head shots, auditions, different head shots, classes, new agent, crap--new head shots again, therapy, commercial agent, new head shots, new acting coach who you've heard is a miracle worker, auditions, more therapy, new head shots, holy shit--I just booked a short! ... What are you really asking?

If you have money and talent you could do a one year PG course at one of the accredited drama colleges! The HUGE advantage is that if you go to a good one - Oxford Schoool of Drama, DSL, Arts Ed, Mountview etc you get an intense course, good tutors and at the end of it a show-case that will be attended by the top agents and casting directors, automatic entry into Spotlight, Equity membership and certainly this year, the majority of the students who did the courses got good agents! Needless to say, there are many other routes but they are tougher and depend on the contacts you have and who you know! Casting yourself in short films is a great idea too! And Dan's comments are spot on :-) To get a good agent, you have to have evidence that you can do it... so apply for all the short films that need your casting type and hope that they will come back at a good enough quality to put together a cracking show-reel! I could write pages ;-) GOOD LUCK!

I don't see how you can ask actors what to do unless you know about acting... Know how they are approaching their rôle by understanding Meisner, Stanislavsky or Strasberg, for example. Only then can you get the best out of them in order to achieve what you have envisaged. The director does, of course, need a thorough knowledge of film grammar and lensing (as he decides the focal length) and many great directors are former actors. A director could, I du
