A wannabe film and television editor interested in collaborating with screenwriters to work on short or feature length films looking not only help direct but edit the project as well. I have previously started to train as an editor at where i Work and am extremely keen to start building a showreel but am really stuck in this development. If anybody has something then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hey Gary. It might be better if you just concentrate on editing or directing... probably editing.
Having said that, since everything is digital now, it would be nothing for someone that has shot a short to give you a copy of the footage. They can edit one version, and you could edit another. Then you bring together the best bits from each version. That way, you can see what it's like to edit something you haven't directed, and the director can see what an editor sees in the footage they may not have thought of. It would be invaluable for them. Plus, if they think you stink, they don't have to use it.
You don't even need to take a credit if the filmmaker helping you out is inclined that way. (I spent 99% of my career working without credit, fixing films in trouble, so it's not really a big deal at your stage of the game. You just need experience).
