INDEXDoes anyone have a template for a production schedule?

I'm just trying to write a production schedule for a 2 day shoot for a short film, and it just looks a bit shoddy. Would be hugely grateful if anyone had a template that I could just add the shots into...?

People tend to use Movie Magic Scheduling, and it (amongst other things) creates pages of strips for scene lists. The detail is fairly light, in fact.
Depending on how much detail you want to plan, how about getting a blank spreadsheet and create a column just of times in 15' increments (08:00, 08:15, 08:30...) and next to that have a column for setups and others for each department. It'll mean you have all the data in more or less graphical form, and can see if things will fit in or not!
For a 2 day shoot, that would work pretty well, and can be made to look pretty

If it's any help, I've seen $50M stadium event spectaculars scheduled using a version of the same technique (not for the show running which is second by second mapped out, but for the site build etc.), so it's workable!

Paddy's idea is really solid, but I'm wondering what you mean by "Just add the shots into...". I'm a little concerned that you might be OVER-SCHEDULING. Are you saying "I have 10 minutes to shoot this Close Up."? I think something like that might fall apart pretty quickly, and add stress that you don't need. Let's say I'm shooting a 5 page scene in one day, but page one goes terribly in the morning and took longer. I've got to rethink my shots for the afternoon to complete the 5 pages. You'll need to find a great way to shoot the remaining pages with less set-ups. I'm afraid if you do it with such a rigid structure, you'll just start dropping shots instead of re-imagining scenes with less shots. Does that make sense?

You might want to try Gorilla or Chimpanzee by Gorilla Software: http://www.junglesoftware.com/products/chimpanzee_home.php I believe they have a trial version of both products also. Chimpanzee is designed for indie/low budget/short shoots.

Thanks both. Yes I think I'll try it on Excel. And by 'add the shots in' I really mean 'add the scenes in'. But it's quite stylised and a few of the shots have to be carefully planned, which is why I'm thinking of them as shots as opposed to scenes. But I just want a clearly laid out plan for the 1st AD to make sure we're running on time. I'm thinking I might just have to add in lots of extra time in case anything goes wrong. But no I wouldn't be scheduling for every single shot in each scene, just for each scene.
