8 years, 10 months ago - Rickardo Beckles-Burrowes

What are the type of activities: pitchfests (online / offline), events, meet up groups for example a screenwriter looking to get their work read and viewed could be thinking about for the final few months of the year?

Rickardo, you've posted a lot about screenwriting, and I'm just curious: how many scripts do you have ready that are pitch worthy?

I've gotten more out of a staged reading than I ever did from a pitch. Perhaps I suck at pitching. I'm sure that's true. On one of my optioned scripts, I did a "radio play," complete with sound efx and professional actors doing the parts. I was able to get an option because of that. Of course, in Los Angeles, it takes an hour, at the least, to get anywhere. So having a producer listen to the script on the way home eliminated any need for a pitch. Why be part of the herd? Do it differently. At the very least, a reading with actors will bring out any nasty bits. I've never considered a script finished without a table reading. Perhaps that is your next step.

Hi Dan,

I've written six feature screenplays and one short. Two of the feature screenplays have gone through a few rounds of independent script evaluation and are pitch ready. Those being: The Sleepless Man: http://bit.ly/1Ptp49M and What He Made Me: http://bit.ly/1TutPBP.

I like the idea of a reading and wonder if this is also something which could be recorded and promoted in a targeted manner via social media.

@Rickardo Beckles-Burrowes That's great! You're well on your way.

I don't know about a social media recording. I can't really think of a downside as long as it's well produced.
