INDEXFilm and BREXIT
9 years, 4 months ago - Matt Turner
Launching with the first day of Cannes, the Creatives4Europe (http://creativesforeurope.org) campaign group are arguing that a British exit from the EU would endanger the future of the British film industry.
They're speaking specifically about the EU Media Programme (annual budget of £700m across Europe), which saw eight UK films receive almost £400,000 last year, but presumably the issue goes wider?
Amy, High Rise and Carol all benefited from the programme’s support recently. Before that, Slumdog Millionaire received more than £1m in support, and the King’s Speech, received over £395,000 in distribution funding.
More widely, what are your thoughts on BREXIT and film? Do filmmakers benefit from EU programmes and schemes at a level below the listed films? Would a British exit have a noticeable negative effect on the future of British filmmaking?

Well, we've been told to expect one disaster after another, including a plague of boils, a rainstorm of frogs, and the death of our first born. We live in interesting times - I think the worst plague is the false 'memes' that infect social media. As for BREXIT, we are all grown-ips, and will decide for ourselves.

I'm in the Remain camp myself, largely for reason of economic sanity, but TBH, the film industry is likely to be hardly affected at all.
WRT to The Media Programme itself, it looks like the kind of thing that gives Europe a bad name. 755 M Euros on WHAT? The list of calls for tender reads like a grave train for buzzword savvy gimme gimme "consultants"
