financial connections

4 years, 3 months ago - richard kelly

Hello from Richard in UK, I am enquiring to finance help for a planned low-budget film set in world war1.
I need to know if anyone has financial connections or can help me finance this project.
Or even Someone an expert on setting up a Kickstarter, that has worked in the past.
If you have any investor help or contacts, or even could help me set up a production company,
please reply with contacts or even a direct email address, thanks.

It's the proverbial $64, 000 question. Viewing all the ongoing campaigns on Kickstarter, Indigogo and such is educational.

Something's sell better than other things. The measures of success are revealed as are the effectiveness of campaign strategies.

I was involved with finance for many years.

And absolutely deliberately DIDN'T get involved in the raising finance side of this business :-)

However, the most important thing is that NO ONE is interested in YOUR PROJECT. They are interested in how your project will benefit them.

That's what you have to pitch. Most potential investors are either :-

a) Cultural. They will back whatever counts as "important art" by their brief, IF they think you are the most appropriate way of spending the assigned funds. Usually, lots of hoops, limited funds, and they are terrified of failure, so like the comfort of a big name. Think BBC.

b) Fans who love it/you. Small money, only works where there is a vast fan base and available rights or permissions.

c) Profit oriented money. Start with your revenue models. They will be fantasy maths, but what the investors want to see is that you know what you need to do to monetise, and what might be the reasonable lower end projections. They expect to see a Cost of Sales line in the budget. They expect to see a budget that makes sense for the production. They want to know they are dealing with professional business people who are also fantastic creatives and brilliant project managers THEN they will start to look at the project in detail.

Asking for 100K for something they think will cost 200K would be a mistake.

d) Angels who love you are your work. Rare :-)

Good Luck

As always and as Marlom suggests,.

The devil is in the detail.

There's an element of 'where's Wally' in this, or do bears pooh in the woods.

Sometimes sheer naivety or empowered unorthodox savantism opens doors to alternative realities, but not often.

I have both investment banking experience helping raise financial capital as well as extensive experience with producing and funding films.
Happy to chat to see if there's any synergy.
