Hi, Advice needed. I'm directing a short film which includes clips from Luc Besson's Leon. Who do I go to for permission and will it cost?

Leon is integral to the storyline, but could be replaced by a film with the same message - the relationship between Natalie Portman's and Jean Reno's character. Just need to know who to go to for clearance etc.

Thanks Shooters.

Eek - I imagine it'll cost real money, but maybe start with Les Films au Dauphin if they're still trading, or EuropaCorp if they bought the back-catalogue.

Yikes. From what I've heard, Luc Besson is really protective of his work. I would prepare myself for not getting permission at all at any cost. I'd start with Besson's company, EuropaCorp. I'd send your script and cover letter via snail mail, then follow up with an email. I think that would get better attention than an email alone. He seems very generous to people he's worked with, so perhaps helping out a young filmmaker isn't out of the question.
