Hi can anyone recommend or suggest a model maker/prop maker who can create some coins for me? Small budget for short film

This is for a short film project to be shot in 2 weeks. I need a coin created that's a double tails (rather than double heads) and another of apparatus to connect to the coin.

Type in Double Sided Coin into ebay and you get ones that come in both heads and tails.

Also, you may find that websites that sell magic tricks might be of use for whatever connecting apparatus you have in mind.

Get 2 2p coins and a flat file. File each to half thickness, apply glue. Cost - 4p!

Thanks for those suggestions. It has to be a old style Britania penny (pre 1971) which makes it a bit trickier. There may be someone with an old magic penny so that may work.

Old pennies are pretty common, I've a couple of kilos of them actually somewhere from a previous project. Anyway, still stands, if you DIY this could cost you as little as 2d(!), if anyone does it for you it's a chunk of work I can't imagine is going to be under £50-odd, especially if they have to source the coins first, just for the time taken!

What's the other apparatus by the way?

Can't read the date reliable, but I think they're 1967 ones - http://www.magicnevin.com/Double-Sided-Old-English-Penny-Tails

Not sure if they'll be able to supply, though - there's a note atop the page saying they had a premises fire.

Oh, here's a place that is in business -http://tinyurl.com/hvpov38 They are 1967 double-tailed old pennies.

damn typos: "reliable" should have been "reliably"

That link was wrecked by my hyphen at its start. Here it is again, sans hyphen: http://tinyurl.com/hvpov38

Thanks everyone. I have a load of the pennies. Paddy: As regards apparatus,I want to be able to put one on a green screen stick/wire so that I can spin it (whatever speed and then adjust in the edit) so that it's like a strange looking lollipop. I'm advised this saves an eon of trying to make a penny spin to order. ALwyne - thanks for the links. I will see if I can buy and get them in time for the shoot.

Here's a UK supplier - https://www.magicshop.co.uk/double-sided-english-penny-by-tango

Drat, that link to the exact page of the UK supplier mysteriously defaults back to their home page. So, just enter PENNY into their search box and the item you want is currently on the second page of hits.

£8.75 + VAT. Despatched in 1 - 2 days.

Have you considered doing this in 3D animation, it'll be even simpler than green screening it... and/or if you get a good model of the coin, you could 3D print some...

I would totally CGI this, TBH - a spinning coin is mostly motion blur, so even in real life the double tails element will probably be hard to observe

Thanks for all this great ideas. You have to be able to see the penny in a hand as well as spinning. I would love CGI animation but it's way beyond the budget and the schedule. It would save a lot of heart ache. I've had an offer from another source to 3D print it so finding out the costs. Will also check out that magic shop. Very grateful. Knew the SP community would have some bright ideas!

Many thanks. I have found a double penny at ALwyne's magic website (top tip, thanks ALwyne) but I will contact Catherine too.

Thanks so much to you all for all your time and effort - much appreciated. Alice
