How much would you pay for the camera kit fee?

6 years, 1 month ago - Buppha Wittaya-Amponpunt

I am making a low-budget horror short. I'm just wondering, if I had to pay for the camera kit fee how much would it be?

It can be difficult to find a DOP/Cameraman without paying the kit fee. So, I just want to know what the standard price is.

I thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Buppha

That would depend on where on the spectrum between lowest and highest production quality your project aspires to be. The answer would be between zero and a thousand pounds per day. The law of diminishing returns at the extremities often applies.

Just ask them, the spread will be huge. Quotes will start higher as they'll offer higher end kit not understanding what it is you need. Then tell them your budget figure and ask how you get the cost back down to that. They'll suck their teeth, then start coming up with ideas ;-)

When someone comes to me with a low budget project, how much I will charge for my kit will depend on who the director is. Do I know him/her? What is their track record? Is it worthwhile my working with that particular director? Could it lead on to better things? So, basically my kit fee goes up and down like a yoyo.
