INDEXHow to get exposure?
10 years, 1 month ago - wendy Zakiewicz
I made a 27 min documentary about supermarket food waste that has stirred a lot of controversy as attempts have been made to suppress it (see thread ‘what to do if you’re told not to do something?’). In reaction to this I am now thinking of publically exposing the story and would love for the film to be broadcast. Has any one got any suggestions about who I should approach who might broadcast/ distribute it?

HBO does short docs. But is it REALLY good? If so, you might look into Academy award submission (there are rules, so if you want to go this route, don't just toss it out into the world). The thing is, Short Docs are the least competitive slot for Academy nominations. If it's really well done, you might get it in competition.
There are tons of doc festivals. Here's a list from Public Broadcasting "P.O.V" show in the states: http://www.pbs.org/pov/filmmakers/film-festivals.php#.VZVzs86HPvk
Since you're in the UK, this sort of thing is right up Russell Brand's alley. Check out his "Trews" (True News) channel on youtube. If it's exposure your after, he can get it for you.

Do you want it broadcast, or do you want it seen?
If you want it seen, make a list of everyone in the media with an interest in the subject, plus bloggers and campaigners etc.
Tell them about your film, and the controversy, and is it something they want to see/run with?
But you really do need to be partnered up with someone on this, campaigner.
If all else fails, put it on YT and spread the word. If it fires things up maybe some in house TV docu makers will do you the honour of asking to include clips in their docu :-)
cheers
