I am a screenplay writer looking for experience.

7 years, 8 months ago - James Kearney

I have written 6 features and one short. I write comedy, horror, adventure and drama about real life and its struggles. I have no credits under my belt as I've only been writing screenplay for a year but would love to get some experience so that I can get more work. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

James.

Hi James, I am interested!

Well, I am interested in doing a few shorts, also some very basic one location minimalism type shoots where most of the emphasis is on the narrative/dialogue. I think this type of work is excellent for highlighting your skills as a writer as most of the work centres on this.

HI James,

Been looking for a writer for a while to help with some short film ideas. Looking to get one filmed in the next couple of months.

Send me a PM and we can talk further.

Hi Chris,

I'm definitely interested in collaborating. I'm not sure what a PM is?

Go to The Writers and Artists Yearbook, look up agents and producers, and read the instructions on how to submit proposals.

No one cares if a microbudget version of your script is produced or not. If anything, it makes you look like a vanity published author. (Unless of course, you directed it yourself, and then it shows whether you have directing talent.)

PM is private message.

Hi James. I'm looking for a script editor to sit in on rehearsals to note changes made to the screenplay as we go through it. At the end of the session to effect the changes for submission. If you're in or near London, it could be for you. Get in contact if you'd like to discuss. PM me...

Writing is experience. Go to Writers and Artists Yearbook. Find lists of union signed agents. Tarantino and Coppola were paid union rates for their first film scripts, even though they lacked "experience."

However, if you've written six features in your first year, they're probably not very good. Rewrite them, and make them presentable. Then, work on your pitch, and submit proposals to agents.

All the best.
