I held a VR screening of my film this week. The format opens up an interesting future for filmmakers to get their film seen.

Any idea how the rest of us might experience what you're telling us about? 'Oculus rift' is new to me, but v interesting re.a project now developing that was only originally intended for 'normal' galleries (though last time I built 'caves' for viewers...)

I totally agree with you. I am not sure it would ever replace the traditional way of viewing films but it is certainly an interesting new format to think about

Very cool, congrats! Tried the oculus rift the other day at an IBM show. A few questions arise:
- Did you make the film in a way to attract the attention of the viewer to where the narrative is happening and hope that that's where they'll keep looking?
- Were the avatars of other viewers not annoying, like people standing in front of you in a theater? Have you thought of designing the available avatars images so as to match the film's style?
- At IBM I was playing tennis, standing. You don't see what's around you, and tend to move as if the space available was that which you see. Can easily hit something or someone or lose balance. Meaning: don't use oculus at top of a staircase. :) I guess it is different when you're seated and passive.
- You do tend to turn your head around and up and down a lot without care. It may seem fine initially, but over the long term it may have consequences for the neck. Hopefully you get less active that way over time because it gets less exciting? I'd like to see a 3D navigation interface that works differently in that regard.
- Can't play tennis with oculus: can't see enough peripheral image. This yet accentuates the need for head movement to an unnatural level.

OK, that was fucking cool, and I'm an old curmudgeon. I also enjoyed the trailer! Would love to see the movie.

Tim, As good as your your write-up of the unique screening is (and it is a really good description) I'm sure it is very difficult to communicate what must have been an amazing experience. Few filmmakers can relate to what you are describing; our traditional way of viewing films is so ingrained. Well done on following through with your vision. Tony
