I'm interested in the Blitz in London

7 years, 11 months ago - Lawrence Perry

My late Father was filmed in a documentary on Words of the Blitz https://pro-labs.imdb.com/title/tt1869823/filmmakers?ref_=tt_fm_all and he kept a diary during the Blitz that became a book through the intervention of the Imperial War Museum. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2272453.Boy_in_the_Blitz#other_reviews

I hoped one day it would be turned into a film, as does my sister.

Hi Lawrence,
Without having read the book, surely with your ability to find investors you could make this happen yourself - it wouldn't be hard to get a writer onboard though finding a story thread with a theme relevant for today might be slightly problematic (though not impossible).

Hi Bob,
Normal practice for a book is to attract a producer's interest - so far I have one that has had two readers read it, both thought it good for a documentary and perhaps three episodes, but if other members had more material it potentially could go further.

Hi Lawrence,
I specialise in writing historically set adaptations,
and have one previous and two present deals in place for WW2 stories (one based on a novel, one on true events)., so I may be in a position to comment. I have just ordered the book and look forward to reading it.
In my experience having existing IP like this is a major advantage, but few investors will pile in without a a clear strategy (TV or feature, documentary or dramatisation, specific angle etc ) and a well developed script. This requires a producer prepared to run with the project on a speculative basis, usually engaging a writer also prepared to write on spec. And to do that writer and producer must be sufficiently confident that the project is original enough and appealing enough to find a wide audience at home (TV) and abroad (feature).
