Is it better to have full short films on website or trailers?

10 years, 1 month ago - Claire Creswell

I make claymation shorts and give occasional film shows. So there is a danger people would see the shorts on my website and not want to come to the show. But if I have the full films on line they can be seen on vimeo and Youtube worldwide and people would enjoy them and it might lead to other opportunities. Which should I do? My website is puppetpowerfilms.co.uk

If they can already be seen on Youtube or Vimeo, then show them on your website too.

If you want to enter film festivals, they may require that the films not be online. A lot of reputable film festivals want "new" films, in other words ones their (local) audience can't see elsewhere (including online or on TV).

If you want to sell them, don't put them online. No one wants to pay for what they can see for free.

But, if you just want people to see them, try DailyMotion, Vimeo, Youtube, and the rest. (DailyMotion has a huge audience that is often neglected. So do some eastern channels.) You can use the short film as a "trailer" for your future work.
